vmas 2010

Eminem feat. Rihanna - "Not Afraid" and "Love the Way You Lie"

Em is really on top of his game right now! He sounded great, and loved the backing orchestra/drum line he had...probably should have closed the show instead of opening! Rihanna actually sounded good too (normally not a fan of her live) and love the red hair! Everyone else at the VMAs had better do it big, they sure set the bar high!!

Justin Bieber - "Baby" and "Somebody to Love"

He sounds WAY too good to be live...and they are showing NO up closes until he's talking...and cool you can play the drums, thats great. Performance had lots of energy, just would have made it that much better had he not been lip synching!

Usher - "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" and "OMG"

It's the return of Usher tonight too!! Loved the sliding down the ramps! Definitely live, but some heavy backing tracks!! And half the time he wasn't even attempting to sing, just dance...but that was really fine with me, because it was a great performance!

Florence + The Machine - "Dog Days Are Over"

I am apparently the only person who has never heard this song/seen the video, but I have heard of her and have some of her other songs. Damn the girl has some lungs on her, definitely the best live sounding act of the night! She looked like she was having a good time too!!

N.E.R.D. and Ciara - "Hot and Fun"

You know I love me some N.E.R.D. and this performance was very random....was it an advertisement? Can i get a full performance cuz i love them!!

Taylor Swift - some sappy song she wrote about last years vmas...

BLEH. I really can't stand Taylor Swift, lol. She was definitely all live, but she sounds bad, and she has a lot of trouble hitting some notes. Her hair is actually different for once so she gets credit for that but Kanye should have performed with her, would have been much better!!

Drake feat. Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz - "Fancy"

Liked the song, and he did a great job for his first time!! It's hard to stand out against MJ too but he did pretty great, definitely reminds me of Eminem!!

B.O.B. feat. Paramore and Bruno Mars - "Nothin' on You" and "Airplanes" and then Paramore "Only Exception"

GOD I HATE AIRPLANES!! The first thing I said when they announced this was GREAT I hate this song!!! And I really dont' like Paramore. It stems back to them opening for No Doubt and just ugh...Luckily I really like B.O.B. and Bruno Mars sounded great, so not completely ruined....

Linkin Park - "The Catalyst"

Damn one of the best performances wasn't even at the VMAs!! Love this song, love them and they sounded great!

Kanye West - "Runaway"

Nothing to save. I love Kanye and that is that. Can't wait for the new cd :) I don't even care about the haters, you can't deny that he is amazingly talented!!

grammys 2010

*gaga and elton john - while it wasn't as crazy as i was hoping, it was just amazing. her and elton just rocked it out. and can we talk about that outfit? not only were those shoes insane (how was she dancing in them?), but that leotard was SO high!! i need to hire her bikini waxer!!

song of the year - "single ladies" by beyonce...that was a damn tough category!! kings of leon and lady gaga should have won as well!!

*green day and the cast of american idiot - pretty damn interesting!! i'm a big green day fan in general, even though i know a lot of people really hate them. but green day + big anthem + tons of back up singers? pretty fantastic, gave me a few chills! i'm kinda interested to check this out!

country album of the year - taylor swift, fearless. of course she was going to win. i'm really starting to be very over her, but she did deserve this award, i suppose!

*beyonce - i really didn't get her performance...obviously she can SING, and obvi she can DANCE...yet she picked one of her older, not as popular songs, and added in some alanis? i just didn't really get it. i think she could have killed it WAY more than she did. also, what were with the guys in black army gear?

*pink - they kept saying her high flying act, and i thought for sure it was going to be the trapeze again...i'm glad it wasn't...the song was very pretty, and i didn't mind the crazy high flying thing...it was actually pretty sweet when she started doing all kinds of crazy acrobatic things...expce ti feel bad for all those people who were getting soaked!! like, that was seriously impressive!! everyone there looked kinda in awe too!!

best new artist - zac brown band. i don't have much of an opinion about this, because i think that it should absolutely 100% go to gaga, and she couldn't be nominated!! my vote would have been tings tings or mgmt...but i kinda thought the zac brown band would get it. good for them, even though i hate country!!

*black eyed peas - i loooooooooove the song "imma be". like, LOVE IT. i wasn't that impressed with that part, i though it could have been a bit more wild and fun, but still was pretty great for the song along. they went into "i gotta feeling" just as the song was getting good, but its ok, this was their big hit this year. i dunno how you can listen to that song and not just feel good about everything.

*lady antebellum - god i wish i had more to say, haha. i mean its country. it was good, thats all i got.

best comedy album - stephen colbert "the greatest christmas of all" - obvi this award was only on the awards show so stephen colbert could give a funny speech, which wasn't even that funny. kinda a waste of time on the show, just sayin.

record of the year - kings of leon "use somebody" they were def. fun in their acceptance speech, and the totally deserved this one.

****I LOVE ROBERT DOWNEY JR. SO MUCH****

*jamie foxx and t-pain - fun. i hate auto-tune just as much as jay-z (ps did you see him bobbing his head and smiling? what a hypocrite!) but this song is friggin catchy!! and how did i know the c-walkin opera director would be t-pain, haha. but he was SO not live. and then some chubby black girl dancing? and slash? what in gods name was going on??? what a freak show that quickly turned into!! but at least jamie apologized to jay-z for the autotune, haha.

**ke$ha has some catchy tunes, but god damn that girl looks like a train wreck. wow.**

best rock album - green day "21st century breakdown". i was shocked by this, thought for sure it would go to anyone else, but i'm very glad they won!

*zac brown band - i think i like these guys! didn't get the god bless america at the beginning, but they sound great. and they are like the country version of dave matthews, haha. very fun. and pretty b.a. at the end!

*taylor swift - ya i get it, she's cute, she's a good singer, she writes all her own songs...i'm just kinda over her, i'm sorry :( she didn't really sound super amazing either...but then her and stevie nicks were fun. but like i said, not really that impressed.

*michael jackson tribute - first of all, kinda pissed i have no 3d glasses. ugh. so i'm not actually WATCHING it, cuz it hurts my eyes. but i love me some smokey robinson. so that was pretty sweet. kinda heartbreaking, but how fantastic of paris and prince getting up and talking like that. so friggin cute.

*bon jovi - i just love me some bon jovi. that is all. thank god they picked livin' on a prayer. just so good.

best rap/sung collaberation - "run this town" by jay-z, kanye, and rihanna. boo kanye for not being there! i kinda wanted lonely island to win, but this one was a no brainer!

*mary j/andrea bocelli - like this wasn't a great song as it was, then you had to go and have these 2 sing it...pretty damn fantastic. these 2 could sing the alphabet and i would be in awe!

*dave matthews band - may be by fave performance of the night!! very emotional and lots of energy. love it. i'm sorry for saying they are overrated, haha

best female pop vocal - beyonce "halo", duh.

*maxwell - he's so hot, and can sing so fantastically. plus roberta flack! yes please! definitely the classiest performance of the night!

*drake/eminem/lil wayne/travis barker - all this one needed was kanye :( first of all tarantino's intro was ridic, lol. didn't get most of lil wayne's performance cuz it was bleeped, lol. same w/eminem actually. but the whole thing was pretty badass, especially eminem.

album of the year - damn. taylor swift again. that pisses me off.

anyways, did i miss some awards or something? they only presented like 7 awards during the show? wtf. anyways, the lady was robbed, i am angry, and i'm going to bed. night music world :)

AMA REVIEW

Well because I'm a slave to my job, I completely missed the AMA's last night, and obviously forgot to record them as I was leaving at 7am...DAMN! Anyways, I've been watching videos all morning and thought I'd give my reviews of the performances, in as few words as possible!

*Janet - Voice wasn't amazing, but at least it was live unlike the VMA performance (maybe? they don't really show her up close, which makes me think otherwise...but it sounds live-ish) But like her brother, that girl is a performer for sure! **and I just finished watching her...she's not live. At all.

*Daughtry - Sound pretty decent, song is pretty slow. Not the best to peform on an awards show with a bunch of crazy pop acts, but hey, whatev.

*Shakira - She is getting more and more disappointing to me. This song was NOT her. The performance really wasn't that great, and what was with the army of steppers? She just looks like another female pop wannabe. So sad :(

*Keith Urban - It's country, so you already know my opinion. His voice sounds alright, and he seems to be having fun. He's trying to look way too pretty though.

*Kelly Clarkson - Definitely not the flashiest performance of the night, but she's one of the few actually SINGING, and girl can belt it out for sure. I'm really over "Already Gone" but she sounds amazing.

*Jay-Z and Alicia Keys - Speaking of "damn, girl can sing"...This song just isn't getting old. Jay-Z is just great, and Alicia is rockin' out. Love it.

*Black Eyed Peas - They are fantastic performers, and sound great live. Fergie actually looks normal and not so fugly. I like the remix too, at first....then it gets weird at the end after "Boom Boom Pow" and I'm not so much digging the "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

*Rihanna - A bit weird...but it was ok. She sounds great, and looks great, I just really don't like any of her new songs at all, so it didn't really do it for me :(

*Carrie Underwood - Also looks great, although I don't all the skanky looking girls with her. Song is pretty good too. The background tracks on the chorus sound awful, she would have sounded better just singing on her own, because her voice definitely sounded great. Good performance.

*Lady Gaga - Not that I'm biased because I'm going to see her in January, but YES!! "Bad Romance" was decent, though not as amazing as the video. In "Speechless" though, damn. Breaking glass, fire, breaking liquor bottles. I will take it!! Amazing!

*Mary J. Blige - Has Mary J. ever had a bad song or sounded bad? The song isn't amazing, but she is such an amazing singer. Nice work.

*J-Lo - Obviously lip-synching. I'm tired of this, they should not let people on this show if they can't sing live. Ugh. And this song hasn't impressed me yet, nor does it after this performance. Really, you are trying to name drop a shoe label? I'm over J-Lo.

*Whitney - Despite missing a few notes, she did great. After all that she has been through, Ms. Houston can still get it! I really like the song, and she looks beautiful.

*Alicia Keys - This song is super crappy, and her performance is very meh. She should have just stuck to performing with Jay-Z tonight.

*Eminem - I'm one of the few people who won't hate on Eminem..but eh. This song is way old first of all. Here's where else I'm confused...He performs Forever, which is Drake's song. Don't get me wrong, Eminem sounds the best on that song by FAR, but why isn't Drake, Kanye, and Lil' Wayne out there with him?

*Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, and some other chic.. - WTF is this? Timbaland looks huge, this song sucks, and what is with all the vampire crap? Ugh, who asked them to perform??

*Green Day - I've never really seen them have a bad performance. I liked their VMA performance better, but they never let me down. But I am getting a little tired of this song!

*Adam Lambert - I never liked this guy. I hate his voice, I think he's obnoxious and annoying. That being said, I can honestly say that I hate his performance. I really don't like the song AT all, and he was trying WAY TOO HARD to get people talking about his performance. OMG you are so risky and out there wow I can't believe it. Fail.

There you have it. I'm really tired of award shows...If they can't sing live, they should not be allowed on the show. I realize some of these people are great performers, but for an awards show, I think you should have to sing live. It's just ridiculous. Ugh. :)

Halloween Playlist Essentials!

Well being as how Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of all time, and that I love music...I figured that the best thing to do is obviously to tell you all the essentials for an amazing Halloween playlist!! You can go at this a variety of different ways. Some people just put creepy sounding music on, while others may put fun catchy songs that talk about Halloween themes (death, ghosts, the color black, etc.) My own personal playlist for our Halloween party tomorrow night is a combination of these. However, rather than listing all 100+ songs that are on that list, I decided to narrow it down to the best 25-30 (which ended up being much harder!) And here they are, in no particular order:

Best Halloween-themed Movie/TV Songs
  • Theme from "Halloween" by John Carpenter - So creepy. So, so creepy.
  • Theme from "Beetlejuice" by Danny Elfman - Not so much creepy as it is goofy, and it makes me think of how ridiculous Michael Keaton looks in this movie.
  • "This is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas - Such a great movie, check out the version by Panic at the Disco. Also a close call for this list was "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" (must download version from She Wants Revenge).
  • Theme from "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr. - The first song I ever learned to play on the keyboard. Classic.
  • Theme from "The Addams Family" by Vic Mizzy. Also a must is "Addams Family Groove" by M.C. Hammer, just because I said so.
  • "The Time Warp" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show - The entire soundtrack from this movie would be great for any Halloween function, but this song takes the cake.
  • "I've Put a Spell on You" from Hocus Pocus. Yes. Just, yes.
Songs featuring Halloween themes

  • "Dead!" by My Chemical Romance. More about dying then death and Halloween, but it works for me.
  • "Living Dead Girl" by Rob Zombie. Because who wouldn't want a song about necrophilism on their playlist!
  • "Bat Out of Hell" by Meatloaf. C'mon, it's Meatloaf..why not?
  • "Devil Inside" by INXS. A more upbeat song, but it works.
  • "Boris the Spider" by The Who. A song about a creepy spider sung in a very creepy voice.
  • "Feed My Frankenstein" by Alice Cooper. Ya, that one song from Wayne's World, jam packed with all sorts of creepy sexual inneundo.
  • "Halloween" by the Misfits. Great song that has been covered quite a few times.
  • "The Boogie Monster" by Gnarls Barkley. Because they can make any song sound fantastic.
  • "Hells Bells" by AC/DC. No explanation needed.
  • "I'm Your Boogieman" by Rob Zombie. The only artist on here twice. Because lets be real...he deserves it.
  • "Hell" by the Squirrel Nut Zippers. This song is quite catchy, and has a fun but creepy beat.
  • "Halloween" by the Dead Kennedys. Not too creepy, and it has NOTHING to do with Halloween...but hey if its in the title!
The Classics
  • "The Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett and the Crypt-Keepers. It was a graveyard smash!
  • "Purple People Eater" by Ray Stevens. Not too spooky, but some people might be creeped by a one eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater...myself included!
  • "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. Not a person on this planet can hear this song and not think of zombies!
Songs that I think are just essential but don't really talk about Halloween

  • "Maneater" by Hall & Oates. Love this song, and it's here cuz I said so!
  • "Electric Demons" by Electric Six. Demons aren't as scary when they are surrounded by synth pop, but a great song nonetheless.
  • "Knights of Cydonia" by Muse. Or as my boyfriend calls it "that one weird song from Guitar Hero with the horse"
  • "Disturbia" by Rihanna. Disturbia sounds either scary or amazing..but good enough for me.
  • "Into the Void" by Nine Inch Nails. This song is creepy sounding enough.
  • "Spiderwebs" by No Doubt. Yes I realize this song is neither creepy or scary, and has nothing to do with actual spiderwebs. But it's a fantastic song, and people will be saying "oh yah, I get it now!"
  • "Black Cat" by Janet Jackson. Again, probably shouldn't make the list, but your friends will think you are OH so clever.
  • "Hunting for Witches" by Bloc Party. Despite the title this song has nothing to do with Halloween. But it's bad ass.
There are so many more. Satan is my Motor, Highway to Hell..I could go on forever. But armed with these essentials I assure you your Halloween mood will be set perfect!

Please feel free to comment on any songs you dislike, or that you feel I should have included!

Happy Devils Night my friends!

playlist time!

Ok folks...I need your help. I know we've all had times where we've thought "damn, I wish I had a soundtrack for this moment in my life!" Maybe you had a crappy day at work? Maybe you're just lounging around the house? Maybe you're at the gym and just can't get motivated to work harder?

That's where I come in! Give me your ideas! I have a few playlists up my sleeve but I'd like to know what kind of music you guys would like to hear too! No matter how obscure the occasion or mood, I want to know what you want!

Let's get the ideas flowin!

ITunes Current Top 10...

So I'm looking at ITunes at the 10 most downloaded songs and 2 are definitely rip-offs. "Fireflies" by Owl City...no way, that's DEFINITELY The Postal Service!! Same voice and everything, its just crazy. "Whatcha Say" by Jason Derulo...not only does it completely ruin one of my favorite sad mood songs, "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap, he is definitely T-Pain'in too much...I thought Jay-Z called for the death of autotune?

Lets see...also on the list..."Meet Me Halfway" by the Black Eyed Peas. Defintely not a great song. I like the BEP, and I enjoyed their album, but I think they probably could have released "Missing You" or "Rock That Body"....or OBVI "Imma Be." I have no idea why they haven't released that as a single yet. If you don't already have that playing on repeat on the ipod, please do so immediately. It's great!

Miley is obviously in the top 10 because that song is SO damn catchy! And Britney too...because a) its Britney and b) its a song about a threesome...so duh, lol.

Adam Lambert has a new song in the top 10, and its pretty awful. I don't really like him (please don't kill me, haha) but the song isn't that great either. Not him at all.

Honestly I don't even want to go into the rest. The only song even worth listening to on there, in my opinion, is "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga! Speaking of Gaga...her new cd re-release is coming out soon and she dropped her new single "Bad Romance" (you can check it out at http://www.ladygaga.com/default.aspx ). Slightly different for her, but I dig it. Tickets go on sale this weekend for her show at the Palace, is anyone else going?

So the first post turned into a bitch fest, and I apologize. There was just a lot of crappy music on my radar tonight. I did download some songs though. Kinda random, but here they are:

"Don't Listen to the Radio" by the Vines
"Cosmic Love" by Florence + the Machines
"Heads Will Roll" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
"Escape From Ohio" by Electric Six

Yah...that's a sexy playlist for tonight :)

WELCOME!

Hey everyone!! Well this is my new idea that's been brewing in my head for weeks now, welcome! Basically it came to be after watching the VMAs this year. The band Muse was performing and pretty much NO ONE had heard of them, and I've been listening to their stuff for a while now. I've been told I have pretty decent taste in music (thanks Brennan!) and I thought that it might be fun to have a blog where I can talk about sweet new bands I'm diggin' on that you can check out. Or talk about old bands too. There might be a popular artist that you just love those one or two songs you heard on the radio, but have you heard some of their other great songs that were never released as singles??

I also love making playlists like I love my mother, so every once in a while I will post some new ones. Ones you can work out to, dance to, sit inside on a rainy day to, etc.

If you guys have any ideas for any artists you think I should cover, or a perfect event/mood that you need a playlist for, or anything else you'd like me to talk about, please let me know at spartygrl13@gmail.com!

And now...off to brainstorm and listen to Itunes...i gotta figure out who my first post is going to be about!
