Halloween Playlist Essentials!

Well being as how Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of all time, and that I love music...I figured that the best thing to do is obviously to tell you all the essentials for an amazing Halloween playlist!! You can go at this a variety of different ways. Some people just put creepy sounding music on, while others may put fun catchy songs that talk about Halloween themes (death, ghosts, the color black, etc.) My own personal playlist for our Halloween party tomorrow night is a combination of these. However, rather than listing all 100+ songs that are on that list, I decided to narrow it down to the best 25-30 (which ended up being much harder!) And here they are, in no particular order:

Best Halloween-themed Movie/TV Songs
  • Theme from "Halloween" by John Carpenter - So creepy. So, so creepy.
  • Theme from "Beetlejuice" by Danny Elfman - Not so much creepy as it is goofy, and it makes me think of how ridiculous Michael Keaton looks in this movie.
  • "This is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas - Such a great movie, check out the version by Panic at the Disco. Also a close call for this list was "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" (must download version from She Wants Revenge).
  • Theme from "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr. - The first song I ever learned to play on the keyboard. Classic.
  • Theme from "The Addams Family" by Vic Mizzy. Also a must is "Addams Family Groove" by M.C. Hammer, just because I said so.
  • "The Time Warp" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show - The entire soundtrack from this movie would be great for any Halloween function, but this song takes the cake.
  • "I've Put a Spell on You" from Hocus Pocus. Yes. Just, yes.
Songs featuring Halloween themes

  • "Dead!" by My Chemical Romance. More about dying then death and Halloween, but it works for me.
  • "Living Dead Girl" by Rob Zombie. Because who wouldn't want a song about necrophilism on their playlist!
  • "Bat Out of Hell" by Meatloaf. C'mon, it's Meatloaf..why not?
  • "Devil Inside" by INXS. A more upbeat song, but it works.
  • "Boris the Spider" by The Who. A song about a creepy spider sung in a very creepy voice.
  • "Feed My Frankenstein" by Alice Cooper. Ya, that one song from Wayne's World, jam packed with all sorts of creepy sexual inneundo.
  • "Halloween" by the Misfits. Great song that has been covered quite a few times.
  • "The Boogie Monster" by Gnarls Barkley. Because they can make any song sound fantastic.
  • "Hells Bells" by AC/DC. No explanation needed.
  • "I'm Your Boogieman" by Rob Zombie. The only artist on here twice. Because lets be real...he deserves it.
  • "Hell" by the Squirrel Nut Zippers. This song is quite catchy, and has a fun but creepy beat.
  • "Halloween" by the Dead Kennedys. Not too creepy, and it has NOTHING to do with Halloween...but hey if its in the title!
The Classics
  • "The Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett and the Crypt-Keepers. It was a graveyard smash!
  • "Purple People Eater" by Ray Stevens. Not too spooky, but some people might be creeped by a one eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater...myself included!
  • "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. Not a person on this planet can hear this song and not think of zombies!
Songs that I think are just essential but don't really talk about Halloween

  • "Maneater" by Hall & Oates. Love this song, and it's here cuz I said so!
  • "Electric Demons" by Electric Six. Demons aren't as scary when they are surrounded by synth pop, but a great song nonetheless.
  • "Knights of Cydonia" by Muse. Or as my boyfriend calls it "that one weird song from Guitar Hero with the horse"
  • "Disturbia" by Rihanna. Disturbia sounds either scary or amazing..but good enough for me.
  • "Into the Void" by Nine Inch Nails. This song is creepy sounding enough.
  • "Spiderwebs" by No Doubt. Yes I realize this song is neither creepy or scary, and has nothing to do with actual spiderwebs. But it's a fantastic song, and people will be saying "oh yah, I get it now!"
  • "Black Cat" by Janet Jackson. Again, probably shouldn't make the list, but your friends will think you are OH so clever.
  • "Hunting for Witches" by Bloc Party. Despite the title this song has nothing to do with Halloween. But it's bad ass.
There are so many more. Satan is my Motor, Highway to Hell..I could go on forever. But armed with these essentials I assure you your Halloween mood will be set perfect!

Please feel free to comment on any songs you dislike, or that you feel I should have included!

Happy Devils Night my friends!

playlist time!

Ok folks...I need your help. I know we've all had times where we've thought "damn, I wish I had a soundtrack for this moment in my life!" Maybe you had a crappy day at work? Maybe you're just lounging around the house? Maybe you're at the gym and just can't get motivated to work harder?

That's where I come in! Give me your ideas! I have a few playlists up my sleeve but I'd like to know what kind of music you guys would like to hear too! No matter how obscure the occasion or mood, I want to know what you want!

Let's get the ideas flowin!

ITunes Current Top 10...

So I'm looking at ITunes at the 10 most downloaded songs and 2 are definitely rip-offs. "Fireflies" by Owl City...no way, that's DEFINITELY The Postal Service!! Same voice and everything, its just crazy. "Whatcha Say" by Jason Derulo...not only does it completely ruin one of my favorite sad mood songs, "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap, he is definitely T-Pain'in too much...I thought Jay-Z called for the death of autotune?

Lets see...also on the list..."Meet Me Halfway" by the Black Eyed Peas. Defintely not a great song. I like the BEP, and I enjoyed their album, but I think they probably could have released "Missing You" or "Rock That Body"....or OBVI "Imma Be." I have no idea why they haven't released that as a single yet. If you don't already have that playing on repeat on the ipod, please do so immediately. It's great!

Miley is obviously in the top 10 because that song is SO damn catchy! And Britney too...because a) its Britney and b) its a song about a threesome...so duh, lol.

Adam Lambert has a new song in the top 10, and its pretty awful. I don't really like him (please don't kill me, haha) but the song isn't that great either. Not him at all.

Honestly I don't even want to go into the rest. The only song even worth listening to on there, in my opinion, is "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga! Speaking of Gaga...her new cd re-release is coming out soon and she dropped her new single "Bad Romance" (you can check it out at http://www.ladygaga.com/default.aspx ). Slightly different for her, but I dig it. Tickets go on sale this weekend for her show at the Palace, is anyone else going?

So the first post turned into a bitch fest, and I apologize. There was just a lot of crappy music on my radar tonight. I did download some songs though. Kinda random, but here they are:

"Don't Listen to the Radio" by the Vines
"Cosmic Love" by Florence + the Machines
"Heads Will Roll" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
"Escape From Ohio" by Electric Six

Yah...that's a sexy playlist for tonight :)

WELCOME!

Hey everyone!! Well this is my new idea that's been brewing in my head for weeks now, welcome! Basically it came to be after watching the VMAs this year. The band Muse was performing and pretty much NO ONE had heard of them, and I've been listening to their stuff for a while now. I've been told I have pretty decent taste in music (thanks Brennan!) and I thought that it might be fun to have a blog where I can talk about sweet new bands I'm diggin' on that you can check out. Or talk about old bands too. There might be a popular artist that you just love those one or two songs you heard on the radio, but have you heard some of their other great songs that were never released as singles??

I also love making playlists like I love my mother, so every once in a while I will post some new ones. Ones you can work out to, dance to, sit inside on a rainy day to, etc.

If you guys have any ideas for any artists you think I should cover, or a perfect event/mood that you need a playlist for, or anything else you'd like me to talk about, please let me know at spartygrl13@gmail.com!

And now...off to brainstorm and listen to Itunes...i gotta figure out who my first post is going to be about!
